About Us
The Saint John Blackhawks entered the Southern New Brunswick Senior Hockey League three
seasons ago as the Old Chicago Blackhawks. The Blackhawks took over the Lancaster
Thundercats who moved on to Quebec in an Allan Cup bid. With the core of the team moving
on it was a rebuilding year in the old Lancaster Centennial Arena, now the Peter Murray Arena.
Last season the Blackhawks moved into Harbour Station and finished in 4th place bowing out
in the semi-finals to the River Valley Rock.
The Blackhawks were a big part of the "Oldtimers Hockey Challenge" game at Harbour Station
with Peter Kingston, John Lake, Pat Lyons, Steve Walton (Owner/GM), John Osborne,
Todd Kennedy, Dave Harrison, Jeff Walker, Nick Hardy, and Dave Arsenault all
representing the Blackhawks along with Dave Spearing and Pat Vaughan running the bench.
Other players representing the league that night were John Jarvis, Willie Cohoon,
Jason Underhill, Joe Bouvier, and Mike Dawson.
The competition was tough with former NHLers Dale Hawerchuck, Jimmy Mann,
Gilbert Perrault, Gaston Gingras, Steve Shutt, Mark Napier, Tony Currie, Kirk Muller,
J.P. Bordeleau, Gordie Gallant, Brian Ford, and Doug Gilmore.
This year the Blackhawks dropped "Old Chicago" in exchange for "Saint John" as they moved
into their third venue in as many years, the LBR (Lord Beaverbrook Rink). With the stongest
draft in the leagues history the Blackhawks will be much stonger this year despite only
having 10 returning players from last season.
This year the promotions are already in gear as well as the Blackhawks manged to sign
Hall of Famer, 6-time Stanley Cup Champion, Bryan Trottier to a one game deal. Bryan will
play in a regulation game on Dec. 18th against the St. Stephen Seahawks. This will be a
history making night as fans will get to see a former Calder Cup winner as the NHL's top
rookie, the Art Ross Trophy as top scorer, and the Hart Trophy as the MVP of the entire NHL
take a regular shift in the newly named SHL!
